What's the big idea?

This blog will be a fictionalised  account of my endeavours in the PC version of upcoming football management game, Football Manager 2010.

I shall be using the data editor at the beginning of the game to set the scenario up. And the scenario is this - Pete Glenn is a 30 something former international software mogul. He's sold up and is looking to invest a billion pounds in a new toy. Disillusioned with the state of existing 'big' clubs, he decides to reinvent the wheel and create his own club.... brand new, starting from scratch. So, he registers Newcastle City Football Club with the English football association and sets about his task of English and European domination. The first area that requires spending will be a brand new 85,000 all seater stadium to be named The City of Newcastle Stadium. Total cost of this will be £350 million (He got a deal from a pal that works in the construction industry, Italian bloke with connections... long story).

The team will start life at the bottom, and by bottom I mean THE bottom. No staff, no players bottom of the non league divisional structure. But look on the bright side, we have £650 million still in the bank, a wonderful stadium (the running of which is costing most of the aforementioned £650 million each week), and a truly superb manager. Ok, the last bit isn't entirely true. Pete Glenn, being a bit of a bighead, has decided to manage the team himself. I mean, how hard can it be??

What players will he manage to sign? Who is crazy enough to agree to be his assistant manager? Can he persuade more than 30 people to come and sit in an 85,000 all seater stadium on a Saturday? How long will it take the put the Champions League trophy in that empty cabinet in his office that he paid £750 for? Will he be bankrupt before he gets that far?

Only one place to find out..... FM2010 - Newcastle City.
